FOX Coaches

Expectations

FOX Fellowship Coaches will guide the onboarding process of FOX Fellows, and will provide real life, contextual support to set them up for success. Coaches will be expected to engage in the following ways:

  • Attend and actively engage during the Cohort Kick-Off and Capstone Conference.

  • Conduct biweekly (twice monthly) virtual one-on-one coaching sessions to support your fellow with their individual learning plan.

  • Facilitate at least two progress/feedback sessions with the CEO (one at the start of the fellowship during the Kick-Off and one to book end the in person, in-field observation.)

  • Engage in an in-person site visit and observation, or join an Advisory Hub meeting.

  • Participate in the Coaches Community of Practice and provide critical feedback to the FOX fellowship team that will improve the outcomes of the FOX Fellowship.  This participation is highly-encouraged but optional.

What will coaching entail?

The fellowship is largely focused on implementation of technical skills and best practices for a COO and CFO in their first year on the job.  The role of the coach is to support this process while weaving in coaching on adaptive skill building as the need arises.  Beyond addressing these issues within the unique context of the relationship, there are three formalized ways we expect coaches to engage.

  • Create an Individualized Coaching Plan.  Based upon discussed goals, self-reflection, and CEO/Executive Director feedback, coaches will work alongside their fellow to develop a plan. This will serve as a reflection point for the fellow, their manager (CEO), and the coach and the launching point for the individualized coaching plan and subsequent coaching sessions.

  • Encourage On-Demand Training For Fellows. There are a series of sessions of pre-recorded sessions that cover a variety of topics, many related to adaptive skill building and the cycle of the year. Coaches can (and should) assign on-demand sessions to fellows needing more support in a particular area (i.e. time/task management, operating mechanisms (running effective meetings), etc.)

  • Leverage The Success Triad.  A unique feature of the FOX Fellowship is the triad engagement between CEOs/Executive Directors, fellows and the coach.  The coach will be expected to leverage this triad as necessary to support fellows, and ensure their success.

How much freedom do FOX Fellowship coaches have to tailor their coaching approach to the needs of their fellow?

The goal of the coaching component of the FOX Fellowship program is to tailor support based on the needs of each fellow.  Coaches are expected to support fellows as needed, taking into consideration their individual adaptive needs (based on the results of the feedback) and the technical deliverables required from the fellowship.

What will in person/in-field Observation look like?

Coaches will conduct at least one in-field observation throughout the fellowship period.  This time in the field will be coupled with an assessment of a Fellow’s work, and an in-depth debrief with both the Fellow and the CEO to highlight successes and identify gaps in training and support.  The Fellowship will be bookended with a 360 review from their team.
