FOX CEOs/Executive Directors

Expectations

CEOs/Executive Directors have the most direct and immediate impact on the success of the new COO or CFO.  As the COOs and/or the CFOs direct manager, CEOs/Executive Directors are responsible for facilitating the conditions to enable their success, particularly in their first year.  An important piece of this process is onboarding.  The FOX Fellowship seeks to complement this process by providing support in key leadership and technical skills immediately important at the beginning of a new COO and CFO’s tenure.  The skill building begins during the fellowship, but it is honed during practical, on-the-job, application and practice. This is why the involvement of the CEO at Lone Rock and throughout the fellowship is essential to a COOs and CFOs success and essential to the FOX Fellowship.

CEOs will work within the triad of success to support a fellow’s engagement throughout the fellowship. This means CEOs will provide fellow’s the time required to engage in all components of the program.  More importantly, they will actively collaborate with a fellow’s coach throughout the duration of the fellowship to ensure they are being provided the support they need to thrive.

CEO Responsibilities by Programmatic Component:

  • Each Fellow will be paired with a dedicated coach who will bring learning to life, and support throughout the practical implementation phase. Coaches will be experienced former or current C-suite leaders who have relevant financial and operational experience. They will offer technical and leadership feedback on an ongoing basis and will work with CEOs to ensure fellows are supported as they implement change within their organizations.

Coaches will meet with Fellows biweekly throughout the Fellowship program and will attend training sessions (as appropriate) to ensure that there is consistency of coaching and alignment of desired outcomes.

  • Fellows will engage in virtual and in-person classroom-style learning that has immediate on-the-job practical application. The sessions will be facilitated by experienced mentors who will guide participants through the learning and tool implementation process. CEOs shoud support their Fellow to actively engage in these sessions.

Participants will have access to best-in-class samples that they can leverage as they develop their own plans, and customized toolkit.

Most sessions will be open to other members of their organization, like the CEO and members of the Finance or Operations teams.

  • Any employee in a new role must have a tangible win within their first six months, particularly a senior leader. This sets the tone for their tenure, it facilitates working relationships among their peers, and engenders trust among their team. The capstone project is meant to provide this win for FOX Fellows. Projects will be selected based on the most pressing need of the organization within each fellow’s functional area. Fellows will be accountable to their peers, the Senior Leadership Team within their organization, and in turn the Senior Leadership Team will be accountable to them. It is important to note that the Capstone Project, like all other deliverables of the FOX Fellowship, will be based on work that is already a core responsibility.
